JOC - Second May show

The second Joy of Crafting show for May features three different lei projects from our Handcrafted Lei and Flowers Book Vol.8. Our first guest, Gloria A. from our Pearl City BFC shows us an updated version of the Finger Lei.

Remember that one as a kid? All you needed was you hands and some yarn.Using the specialty yarns and rattail creates a whole new look, check it out!

Then, Cheri Ann L. from Market City BFC shares another lei from the new Handcrafted Leis and Flowers Book Vol. 8. It's like the 3-straw Ilima lei we used to do with the bright orange yarn, except this time it's done with rattail. A new twist on an oldie but goodie!

Lastly, by popular request, I show you how to do the deluxe braided Lei aka double braid lei. This lei is great for schools with three colors. The instructions also can be found in our new lei book.

Hope you can catch the show because there's still time to make some leis for the Graduates, especially for their grad parties! Hope you are all having a happy and safe graduation season. Congratulations to all the graduates of the Class of 2010! Always be willing to learn and grow, it's a key to your happiness!

Watsonville's Hoku!

A bright spot for today's work day was meeting someone who truly loves Hawaii. Meet Patsy Benfield aka Pupule Paki!

Patsy and her husband were in our Mapunapuna store this afternoon buying lei supplies and she came over to give me a huge hug. She watches the Joy of Crafting via the internet and wanted to make some of the leis she's been seeing on the show.

The Beinfields are here for the Na Hoku Hanohano Awards and Festival. Patsy knows Hawaiian because she is the DJ for Watsonville, CA's all Hawaiian radio station KAPU 104.7 FM.

Like I said in an earlier post, the Love for things Hawaiian is Everywhere! Lucky we live Hawaii!

Thank you for stopping by today and I hope you all have a safe graduation weekend!

Market City's Paper Party

This past Saturday, we had a lot of FUN at Market City BFC's Annual Paper Party. It's always fun to see good friends as well as make new ones.

Cheryl Miyashiro was there with a project that used the new 3-D flower die from Sizzix.

Everyone had to make their own flower! And everyone's flower came out fabulous!

A lot was going on throughout the day, as well as chances to win door prizes.Deb and David from Rubber Stamp Plantation was doing make and takes on glass etching and watercolor pencil techniques. Joe was introducing people to a new line of artists' paints. Othe projects included a cute paper frame and  a post-it note holder. Edna was drawing a crowd with her demos of nylon flowers, beaded leis and money trees. I know there was more that I didn't get to see since I had my own Flower Soft Haku Angel pin make and take.

Here's Aimee and Darling with their cute projects, an Owl Lollipop cover and a greeting card.

Isn't this owl so cute and it's made with punches!

Hope you can make it to the next Paper Parties coming up this summer at Kahului in July and Pearl City in August!

Thanks for stopping by today and I hope you all are having a great week! Congratulations and Best Wishes to all of the Graduates of the Class of 2010! May you find your Happiness as you Journey through Life!

May Day 2010 in Vegas

May Day was a fun weekend in Vegas! I got the chance to meet a whole bunch of sweet and very crafty people.

I started my Vegas adventure on Thursday with lei making demos at the Lone Mountain Ace Hardware store. Gene L.(left), her daughter Angela (right) and Angela's boyfriend, Devin ,stopped by the store on Friday and learned how to make a new lei. (Devin's camera shy)

I learned that Gene is a fan of a lot of the Hawaii bloggers and surprised me with this great Easel card.

Gene also loves washi paper and made me this awesome fold-out box...so cool!

May Day Saturday and Sunday was spent at the May Day Festival at the California Hotel. That was really fun especially since I got to meet so many people from all over including Vegas, L.A. , Utah, Austrailia and of, course, Hawaii!

Here's Stacy Wood, a really sweet girl who loves crafting. Stacy and her boyfriend were nice enough to stop by the booth and say,"Hi!"

All in all, it was great weekend in Vegas crafting with such wonderful people. This event is proof that there is a lot of Aloha in the world for things Hawaiian.

If you live in Vegas or even if you're just visiting, check out our Lone Mountain Ace Hardware store (on the corner of Decatur and Lone Mountain, next to Von's). They've  got all of the lei making supplies, Hawaiian theme crafts and your favorite local kine ono snacks!

Much Mahalos to my Ace Bruddahs in Vegas - Dennis, Robert and Lorne for their warm Aloha! Thanks for stopping by today and hope you are all having a Great week!
