CRAFTober's First Joy of Crafting Show

I can't believe it's already CRAFTober! Seems like we were just celebrating Aloha Festivals! But here in Hawaii, there is always a reason to make a lei to wear or give away. So, our first guest shares the beauty of lei made from fresh flora and fauna.

Kuana Torres Kahele is well known for his musical talent and now he is sharing his lei making skills with  his "Make Lei" DVD.

Here, he shows us a basic lei made from coconut fronds while giving us some lei making tips! Kuana visited some of our stores in September and will be at the following stores in October:
Oct. 15th Kona Ace Hardware & Crafts from 10am - 12 noon
Oct. 16th Kamuela Ace Hardware & Crafts from 11am - 1pm
Oct. 17th at Hilo Ben Franklin Crafts from 11 am - 1 pm.

The Holidays will soon be here, starting with Halloween! Do you have your costume yet? Well, here's a fun and easy idea that Alix from Market City shared with us. You can adapt it for adults and children. Do you know what it is? That's right, she's a piƱata!

And then we have our TeamHMSA on the show to share with us their new website and blog for Well Being. You should check it out, it's full of great information on how to take better care of your self in all different aspects of life, from food, exercise, mentally with CRAFTS and more! So awesome, we crafters always knew crafting was good for us! Learn more at wellbeinghi.com

Lynelle, one of the crafties at HMSA made a photo collage letter for team member Moani. Great idea for a keepsake or gift!

So, I hope you can join us for this fun filled episode! Have a great week and Happy CRAFTober!

14 Days of Valentines - Day 6

Today's project is really for tomorrow. Tomorrow is Wear Red day in support of Women's Heart Health. Show your support and wear something red!

For those of you who just want a touch of red, how about a little pin to wear? Here's Day 6's project...

Start by stamping  a small image onto cardstock. I chose this cute dandelion design because the kimono girl is holding a heart..how appropriate!

Next, color your image up. I used Copic markers but a lot of times I just use colored pencils.

Cut the image out. I know that I won't be able to fit the whole image, that is why I didn't bother cutting out her feet.

I cut the image out because I am going to use a red background (wear red!). So I punch a 1' circle from red cardstock.

I cover the red circle with some Mod Podge.

Then, I added the image on top. Mod Podge acts as a glue, too.

Then, I add a coat of Mod Podge over the whole thing.

Instead of a marble, I placed a round glass tile over.
Press down to get rid of any air bubbles. Now, to let it dry.

The Mod Podge dries clear, revealing the image! Glue on a pin back to the other side. Now I'm ready for Wear Red day!

Thanks for stopping by today and I hope you're ready for another project tomorrow!

August's Second Joy of Crafting Show

Summer is ending soon, but the fun crafting continues! On this episode, we introduce a new friend and some favorite friends return with great craft ideas!

First, we welcome to the show, Alyson "Ally" Turner from Mapunapuna Ben Franklin Crafts and she has a really fun and clever project! Making bracelets from jumbo craft sticks! Ally shows us this wonderful technique! You can use a lot of different things to decorate the unfinished bracelet, too!

Then, Jenny Floro shows us how to create the popular ombre look with our new Vintage glitter line!

Savannah from Celebrations is back with another great wrapping idea. This time she uses Flower Wrapper to create a cool juice can gift!

Lastly, I sneak in with a quick (don't blink!) burlap flower idea!

Hope you get a chance to see the show! Happy Crafting and enjoy the rest of your Summer!
