13 Days of Halloween - Day Four

Coming up with 13 Halloween projects wasn't super easy for me, in fact it, made me a little Batty!

So here's Day Four's project - a Batty Lollipop cover!

Use the Clever Lever 2 1/2" Oval (Pink) and punch out one oval from black cardstock for the bat body.

Cut out two bat wings from the black cardstock. I free-hand drew a pattern. If you want to use mine,
e-mail me joyofcrafting@gmail.com and I'll send it over to you.

Use the Clever Lever Standard Oval (Orange) and punch out two ovals from green cardstock for the eyes. Use EK Success 5/16" circle punch and punch out two circles from black cardstock for the eyes.

Layer the black circle onto the green eyes and glue in place. Use the white Galaxy Marker for accents.

Place the eyes onto the upper half of the oval and glue in place. Use a white marker (American Crafts Galaxy Marker) and draw a squiggly mouth. Use the marker to draw in fangs, let dry. Use a red marker or pen to add red to the tips of the fangs.

Use the Clever Lever  Shipping Tag (purple) and punch a tag from cardstock. Take the 1/4" hole punch and punch a hole on the pointed end.

Slip the tag onto the lollipop, tape in place.

Place a wing on either side of the body and glue to the back. Place the bat onto the tag and tape in place.

Tie a bow to the lollipop stick.

Thanks for stopping by today and hope you have a FANG-tastic week!

And Yes, Two Lucky winners will win one of these beautiful canvas paintings by Frank!

Our favorite paper crafter, Cheryl Miyashiro is back with another style of Peek-a-Boo card using the Kokeshi Doll stamps from dandelion designs.

It's such a sweet card! And Jean, the owner and designer of dandelion designs is giving away a goodie bag full of her stamps to Two Lucky winners for our Anniversary contest.

13 Days of Halloween - Day Three

It's Day Three of the 13 Days of Halloween and I'm back with another simple and fast project that's fun for kids of all ages!

Twinkie Mummy!

Okay, maybe Twinkies don't have to be mummified because I heard that they last forever, but it's the perfect shape for this Halloween treat.

You'll need a Twinkie.

You'll need some icing, Wilton cake decorating tip #47 and black candy pearls. I used the ready made tube of icing so I just needed the coupler to attach to the tube. If you use some homemade icing , you'll need an icing bag, too.

Because the Twinkie is yellow, you may want to frost the Twinkie with a light layer of icing first. That way, the yellow won't show through if you miss some spots.

With tip #47, you will begin to make strips of icing across the Twinkie, like a mummy wrap. Make sure that the tip has the jagged edge facing down, otherwise you will get additional texture on your strips, like for a basket weave. Have the strips go across randomly as if they were the cloth wraps on the mummy, it'll look more interesting.

Before you finish "wrapping" the mummy, place two black candy pearl beads on the upper third of the Twinkie for the eyes. Make sure to add some strips near the eyes so that the eyes look like they are peeking out from under the wraps.

And that's a wrap!

Thanks for stopping by today and I hope you enjoyed your weekend! Visit tomorrow for our fourth Halloween theme project, until then Happy Crafting!

13 Days of Halloween - Day Two

Okay, I'm sticking with the brown bags today (since I have 40 of them!) Again, this one is super easy for crafters of all ages!

Get a Hoot of this Brown Bag Owl!

Take the brown bag and bring the two top corners together to find the middle, pinch at the top to mark the center point.

Fold in each of the top corners to the center point as shown.

For the eyes, take the 2 1/2" Clever Lever Circle punch (pink) and punch two circles from brown cardstock.

Take the 2" Clever Lever Circle punch (blue) and punch out two circles from white cardstock

Take the 1" Clever Lever Circle punch (green) and punch out two circle from golden yellow cardstock. Take the 3/4" Clever Lever Circle punch (green) and punch out two circles from black cardstock.

Layer all of the pieces as shown and tape together for the eyes.

Fold the pointed flap down. Place the eyes under the pointed flap and tape in place.

Cut a triangle from orange cardstock for the beak. Tape over the point of the flap.

Fill the bag with treats and tape the flap down. You can also use sticky back velcro if you want to open and close it a lot. You can also add feathers at the top corners for more detailing.

BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE!!!

Today, I went to Celebrations' "Adventures in Bento Making" event featuring Crystal "Pikko" Watanabe.
Crystal is the co-author of Yum Yum Bento Box and she demo'd some fun bento style food.

She made little ghosts from quail eggs and a tombstone from Okinawan sweet potato.

She carved pumpkins from persimmons.

She showed us how make a free-form shape musubi and made a skull. She made little soccer ball rice balls using a special ball mold. I bought one of the molds because I want to make snowmen later.

Then she showed us how to make cute sandwiches with the animal shape cutters.

So much fun and so cute! Thanks for stopping by today and I hope you are having a great weekend!

P.S.  - Don't forget to go to the Ben Franklin Crafts store to enter the JOC 10th Anniversary giveaway! we're drawing the names for the first set of winners on Monday!

13 Days of Halloween - Day One

As part of Craftober, we're going to count down the days to Halloween with different projects everyday, 13 in all. Today, we have our first project, a simple one that even the kids could do!

It's a paper bag broom filled with treats!

I used the brown paper bag, I think you get 40 in a pack.

Cut the sides of the bag leaving the bottom intact.

For the broom handle, I used the clear magic wand tube filled with candy corn and striped with ribbon. Then, I filled a clear cello bag with candies, stuck the handle in the center and taped it up so that the handle wouldn't slide out.

Placed the candy filled bag in the center of the shredded bag. Gathered all of the shredded sides of the bag and cinched with a ribbon. I added a tag that says "Witching you a Wicked Halloween"

So fast, so simple!

Thanks for stopping by today and have a great weekend!

October's first Joy of Crafting show!

With tonight's premiere of the first October show, so begins our month long Joy of Crafting 10th Anniversary celebration! We have some special guests helping us celebrate our birthday...

Our first guest makes his debut on the show with some bento food styling! Meet Joel Kutaka from the Celebrations store next to Mapunapuna Ben Franklin Crafts.

Joel uses some of the fun bento cutters they sell to create a cute Ghost sandwich. If you don't have bento cutters, you can easily adapt his ideas with cookie cutters, too.

Well, we couldn't celebrate without having Frank Dumlao on the show! Our favorite One Stroke painting artist will show us how to paint irises on a glass vase.

So, beautiful!

And of course, we had to have our favorite paper crafter, Cheryl Miyashiro on the show!

This time, Cheryl shows us how to make a cute Halloween Peek-a-boo card. It's really cool!

And surprise! All of the guests have donated a "gift" that you all can enter to win! Watch the show and go to any of our Hawaii Ben Franklin Crafts stores (and Celebrations, too) to fill out an entry blank. Lots of fun stuff to win, including some OC16 gear!

And since there's two shows this month, there's two chances to win! We'll draw for some winners on Monday, Oct. 22nd and then again on Monday, Nov. 5th.

Thank You for supporting the Joy of Crafting show all these years! It's because of you that the show is even on the air! We have some new ideas that we'll be doing on the show that I think you'll really like, so stay tuned!

Thanks for stopping by today and don't forget to go to the store to enter starting Monday!Happy Crafting!
