14 Days of Valentines - Day 14

So, on the 14th Day of the 14 Days of Valentines, we celebrate with a contest! Just like last year, please leave a comment telling me which were your favorite three projects. So far, this Valentine's Day is turning out pretty nice! I got to work and first thing, I received a long stem rose from one of my co-workers! He gave one to all of the ladies in the office. (hmmm, think he read my Plarnation blog post?!)  I got a yellow one which is my favorite color because they have a sweet smell and they are the symbol of friendship. They also remind me of my high school days at McKinley playing in the band. Yes, I was in band but I wasn't a geek! Anyway, we always got yellow roses after our concerts.

The second sweet thing that's happened today was Megan, our resident Baker Extraordinaire, baked us cookies and personalized them with our names! So cool and so yummy!

14 Days of Valentines - Day 13

Well, it just wouldn't be Valentine's Day without a sweet treat and chocolate, right?! So, here's something you can whip up in less than half an hour! Rice Krispie treats!

So, in case you've never made these, here's the recipe. I love the idea of saving time by microwaving the ingredients.

I decided that I just wanted to make a few, so I cut the recipe in half. I measured everything out before starting.

So, first you melt the butter. Then, you add the marshmallows and stir them in, coating them with the warm butter. Next,  you melt the marshmallows, too. I used the mini marshmallows because I thought they would melt faster.

After stirring up the melted goodness, quickly add the Rice Krispies cereal and stir. Make sure you get all of the cereal coated.

Instead of a regular pan, I decide to use my Wilton Heart Shape Whoopie Pie pan. I placed a scoop of the mixture into the heart and pressed them in to mold. They start to harden and shape very fast, so work quickly!

Because the pan is non-stick, the hearts pop out very easily. But wait! There's more!

I melted some Guittard Dark Chocolate Candy Melts.

I dipped and drizzled the chocolate over the hearts. For some of the hearts,  I did the whole top, others I just did a half.

Like I said, it took less than half an hour to do a dozen hearts. You still have time to make a homemade treat!

14 Days of Valentines - Day 12

For the 12th project in the 14 Days of Valentines, I'm playing with another new toy! I loved the We R Memory keepers envelope Punch Board, well now, they have a couple of new punch boards that make all kinds of favors!

 

Today, I'm going to use the Pillow Box Punch Board!

 

Got some pretty cardstock and sheer ribbon.

 

You need to cut the paper 6" wide and you can make it anywhere from 4" to 12" long. I decided on 6" long. Take the cardstock and align the left side to the "Start line" printed on the board in green.

Punch and score the curve along the top. Score the vertical line on the right side edge.

Move the cardstock over to the left and align the top along the "Nook".

Punch and score again. Move the cardstock to the left again and punch and score the curve. Flip the cardstock around and punch and score the other side

Flip the punch board and insert the middle tab into the reverse punch to make the notch.

Trim off along the curve of the side tab.

Crease and put double stick tape along the tab section.

Assemble the box.

 

I tied a ribbon around the box and made a bow.

Here's a 4" size box. It's perfect for some fine jewelry, hint, hint!

14 Days of Valentines - Day 9

****OOOPS, Sorry, forgot to hit publish so this is yesterday's project!

For Day 9 of the 14 Days of Valentines, we have some thing that's the same but different!

I love origami that's easy, so here goes! Start with a paper 4.25" x 8.5"

Fold in both sides to the center. Crease well.

From the top, fold down 2". Crease well.

Flip the paper over to the other side. Fold the top corners down to the center. Crease well.

Flip the paper back to the other side. It should look like this.

Fold the top point down to the back. It should create a small pocket.

Here's a side view with the point on the other side and the pocket formed.

At the top, snip at the center point about one third down.

At the top, fold the corners in on each side. Crease well.

At the bottom, fold in each corner to the center. Crease well.

Roll the paper and tuck the bottom point into the pocket.

Slip in a napkin. This is the matching napkin ring for your chopstick holder. See, same but different!

14 Days of Valentine's - Day 1 Punch Art Card

Hello February! Last year, I did 14 Days of Valentine's projects and I decided to do it again this year! To refresh your memory, these are the projects I shared last year ...

 

I know you only count 13 projects because on Valentine's Day, I asked what was everyone's favorite project?! A lot of people picked as their favorites the Message in a Bottle, the Origami Heart and the Wire Wrapped Heart ring. Then, I randomly chose 3 comments and gave those people a Ben Franklin Crafts gift card. I plan to do the same thing this year!

So, for this year's first project I have a punch art project, hope you like it!

 

Most of the punches used are Marvy Uchida Clever Lever punches unless specified. Start with the 2.5" Oval - Pink and punch out an oval in white cardstock  and one in black cardstock. Take the white oval and slip it back into the punch and punch out a section on each side, as shown.

 

Next, take EK Success 5/16" circle punch and punch two circles on a scrap piece of white cardstock.

Now, take the Clever Lever 1/2" circle punch - Orange, and position over the 5/16" holes as shown and punch out. These are your eyes.

Take the 2" Oval - Blue punch and punch out two ovals from black cardstock. Keep one on the side for the body.

Slip the other oval back into the punch as shown and punch a skinny oval. Cut this piece in half for the ears.

Take the 5/16" punch and punch out one circle from pink cardstock for the nose. Assemble all of the punched pieces and glue as shown. The black from the head will show through to create the eyes. Use the white Galaxy Marker to make a dot in the eyes for highlights.

Take the 2" Oval - Blue punch and punch out one oval from white cardstock. Use a scissors to trim off a section along the top. Glue onto the body for the "back stripe".

Slip the same white oval back into the punch as shown and punch out a slight teardrop shape for the chest. Glue in place.

Use the Small Oval - Orange punch and punch out four ovals from black cardstock for the paws. This is not shown, but use the 1.5" Heart - Yellow punch and punch one heart from red cardstock. Use a black marker to write "Be Mine" on the heart.

Use the 2.5" Oval - Pink punch and punch out one oval from white cardstock and one from black cardstock. Place the black oval back into the punch and punch out a skinny oval. Do the same with the white oval, but make it smaller. Layer the white onto the black and glue. This is the tail.

Assemble all the pieces together to make your skunk. I have two small black ovals at the bottom for the feet and the two other small ovals are the paws holding the heart. I placed the skunk on the front of a card and used stickers to write" UR so Stinkin' Cute!"

14 Days of Valentines - Day 11 LOVE Note book

Besides the people in your life, I'm pretty sure I know what else you love! You love to craft! That's why you're here, right? Well, like me you probably have a million ideas running through your head. So, I decided I needed a place to write it all down, especially when I'm on the go.

So, here's a fast and easy, but personal notebook.

I took one of the RTD blank notebooks, very inexpensive at only a  $1.00! Took some of my leftover paper from cardmaking.

First, I measured the height of the book, which came to 5 5/8". Cut my paper 5 5/8" x 12" to make it easy. Wrapped the paper around the outside of the book and into the front inside cover. Creased the edges.

I covered the blank book with strips of double-sided tape. Notice the extra tape where the book will fold over? This is so that the cover paper doesn't shift. I expect to open this book and fold over pages a LOT! Placed the paper on and taped it down to the book.

The reason I wrapped the paper into the front inside cover was so that I could make a pocket. Folded the paper at an angle and trimmed some off.

Folded the edge over for contrast and taped it down. Then I taped the inside cover along the sides and bottom to create a pocket.

I saved the triangle piece I cut off and folded it into a corner bookmark!

 

Now, I can mark my last page!

Next, I decorated the front cover with more scraps, stickers and a rub-on. Easy peasy!
